Take a break…

I don’t know about you Purple Poppy peeps, but I can’t believe that spring is almost here. Those of us here in Colorado are definitely getting a little winter weary, although I am sure we have plenty of winter left to suffer through. That’s why dear husband and I are taking a quick break from the store. Only 5 days…just a quick trip…we don’t even have to get on a plane. We are traveling down to Crested Butte for a few days of skiing, hot tubbing and just relaxing for a week. Mary will be here at the store all week so I know you’ll be in good hands.

Can’t get away right now but need a break?   Here’s a few of my favorite ways to relax and “take a break” without ever leaving my town (or house):

How about exploring your own hometown? For a true mental getaway, explore your surroundings with a visitors eye.  City magazines or weekend newspaper sections are a great resource for in-town events such as outdoor concerts, movies in the park, and theater performances. Or head to the closest college town to take advantage of some free campus offerings, like dance performances, lectures, live music, exhibits and more.

Have a spa day at home. Light a candle – turn on your favorite tunes – brew yourself a cup of  herbal tea – put tasty treats on a pretty plate then relax while you soak your feet in a lavender infused foot bath. Sigh – I can feel the tension melting away just thinking about this kind of day!

Plan your next vacation. If you can’t leave today, then get yourself re-energized by planning your next trip. Pull out your travel books, start making lists of all the things you want to see and do on your next adventure. Nothing brightens my day like thinking about my next travels. Sometimes the anticipation and planning of our trips is one of the highlights!!!

To really get yourself in the mood, watch a movie set in your favorite vacation spots. I personally love “Midnight in Paris” – the opening scenes of Paris, as well as the perfect choreographed movie transport you there immediately. “A Good Year”, shot on location in the sweet French town of Gordes will also magically transport you to Provence for two hours. Are you more of an Italy kind of girl? Then “Under The Tuscan Sun” is a must-see for you…I could spend all day watching movies set in faraway locations! What about you? Do you have a favorite movie that transports you to your happy place?
