I have started this post four times now, and I just can’t seem to get on track. So, let me start with the title I am a “Grateful Small Business Owner”. There, I’ve said it. I am so grateful for this community that has embraced us and made us successful. You are all incredible customers, but you are also more than that. You have become our friends…part of our family. And for that I am so very grateful.
This past summer was a tough one for the dear hubby and for me. In 21 years of marriage, we have faced obstacles…both personal and professionally…but nothing like this. A major stroke took a big whack at the hubby and our whole world came tumbling down…it was quick…a phone call to me here at the store, a frantic 911 call and a rushed ambulance ride to the hospital. Bad timing, too…here at the store, Mary was embarking on a much needed vacation, so I had a husband in the hospital, and a store to run. I am so grateful to all of you who called and came by the store – reached out to me, wanting to help – in any way. I could not, and still can’t, believe the outpouring of generosity from this community. All of you made living through this storm bearable; knowing that I could come to the store and be open about our experience; knowing that each one of you is walking your own journey (good AND bad). I heard stories of pain and sadness that I would not have heard if I had not shared my own. But, also stories of love and survival…of hope…and generosity!
So, thank you so much for caring…for loving us…for loving our store…for being there for us in good times AND bad. That’s what makes you friends…not customers. I have many things to be grateful for, but you are at the top of my list this year.
I’d love to hear what you are grateful for this holiday season! Share with me here on the blog or on Facebook.
And a very Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!
